- Socioeconomic factors: nutritional status in lower socioeconomic sectors tends to be much worse than that in higher sectors, mainly due to lack of education, lower incomes and factors such as alcoholism and drug abuse.
- Local food availability: e.g. fresh fruit and vegetables may be difficult to obtain in remote communities unless they are being grown.
